FAQ
The one-day Mountain gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda is an excellent option for those eager to observe these endangered primates in their natural environment during a brief visit. This adventure takes place in Volcanoes National Park, which is part of the expansive Virunga Massif. The journey begins in Kigali, where participants are typically picked up early in the morning.
At 4:30 am, your driver-guide will arrive at your hotel to take you to Musanze. A light breakfast is scheduled at Five Volcanoes Hotel at 7 am, after which you will head to Kinigi for a pre-trek briefing that occurs between 7:30 am and 8 am. Once the briefing is complete, you will embark on your gorilla trekking experience with a ranger guide, with a drive of at least 20 minutes required to reach the trekking starting point.
The experience
The gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park can take up to 4 hours, but it may last longer due to the unpredictable movement of the gorillas. Your ranger will guide you through the hike, so it’s essential to bring plenty of drinking water to stay hydrated. When you encounter the mountain gorillas, it’s important to adhere to your ranger’s guidelines, including maintaining a safe distance, staying quiet, and wearing a face mask.
You will have one hour to observe the gorillas, during which you can take photos and videos of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Afterward, you’ll make your way back to the starting point and bid farewell to the forest. You’ll enjoy lunch in Musanze town before returning to Kigali. If you have a flight to catch, please inform your driver-guide to help manage your travel time efficiently.
