About Mountain Gorillas | Safaris Uganda and Rwanda
Mountain Gorillas reside in Africa, occupying the Virunga Conservation Area in the Virunga Mountains and the rain-forested areas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda. The Virunga Conservation area includes the Virunga National Park in DR Congo, the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and the Mgahinga National Park of Uganda. Mountain Gorillas by nature are covered with more fur on their bodies, and to regulate their body temperatures, they have to stay in higher altitudes, which have cooler temperatures.
These mountains have a maximum altitude of 4507 meters above sea level. This explains why they are referred to as mountain Gorillas. The Virunga Mountains are a chain of volcanoes in Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Uganda. These volcanic mountains are located between Lake Edward and Lake Kivu.
