About Gorilla Trekking Tours
During a gorilla trekking safari, you will have the opportunity to spend one hour with these magnificent animals. The trek usually begins at either 7 am or 8 am, depending on the country you choose. For example, in Uganda, the briefing occurs at 8 am, while in Rwanda, it takes place at 7 am, indicating that Uganda is one hour ahead of Rwanda, which is a crucial detail to keep in mind. As gorillas move through the forest, trackers follow them from the nests they constructed the night before. Ranger guides maintain communication with the trackers until your arrival, ensuring that the likelihood of missing a gorilla family is very low.
As for gorilla, permits are set at USD 800 per person in Uganda and $1500 per person in Rwanda. Keep in mind that Uganda no longer offers discounted permits during the rainy season. However, if you find yourself trying to secure a permit last minute during the long rainy season from March to May, you might have some luck. On the other hand, from October to November, as well as January to February and June to August, permits tend to sell out as early as a year in advance. Since the number of permits is strictly limited, we highly recommend planning to ensure you don’t miss out on this incredible experience.
Double Gorilla Trekking – Uganda and Rwanda.
Our safaris offer double Gorilla Trekking experiences. Select one or two destinations for this adventure. For example, gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, known for its bamboo forests, dense thickets, and open meadows. The trek through Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda typically lasts up to four hours, which is also true for Mgahinga National Park in Uganda, as both parks feature similar types of vegetation. Bwindi Forest Park is known for its thick vegetation and towering trees of the forest canopy. The forest contributes to consistently damp ground conditions, as sunlight struggles to penetrate through; that’s why it is challenging to trek through.

The Nile Congo trail from Gisenyi, exploring the shores of Lake Kivu and villages (a 271 km trail). Giswati Mukula National Park for golden monkey tours. Akagera National Park, on the other hand, is a point of interest. This is where you will spot the “Big Five” in Rwanda. Driving in Akagera National Park from the southern part of the Park to the North greatly rewards any visitor.
In Uganda, on the other hand, Queen Elizabeth National Park, best known for tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector, with a launch cruise at the Kazinga channel, is another place to consider and include on your safari holiday trip in Uganda. This also offers treks to Chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge and the Kalinzu Forest Reserve. Furthermore, more west in Uganda are the Ruwenzori Mountains — the highest mountain in Uganda and second in Africa at 5,109 metres, Margherita Peak. Gorilla Habituation Experience, Bwindi National Park
Gorilla habituation is done in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda in the Rushaga section. This Gorilla experience allows visitors to spend 4 hours with wild gorillas that are not yet fully accustomed to human presence. This Gorilla habituation takes about four years, and visitors participating in this experience play a big role in conservation. A significant number of Mountain gorillas that remain wild require a habituation process. Mountain Gorilla habituation process takes over four years for gorillas to become fully accustomed to humans. This experience offers a unique opportunity to observe their behaviour and learn about the habituation process in the wild.
Gorilla habituation is different from gorilla trekking. This full-day adventure usually begins as early as 6 a.m. and often extends throughout the day. Gorillas that are not fully habituated typically live at a distance from humans and can display aggressive behaviour when spotted. Their social structure mirrors that of habituated gorillas, generally led by a silver back male. This silver back directs the group to safety, and visitors are strongly advised to maintain a distance of at least 10 meters from the gorillas at all times.
